The History of the Melrose-Mercy Neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida

Melrose-Mercy is a neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is located to the southwest of downtown St. Pete. The surrounding neighborhoods include Jordan Park, the Warehouse Arts District, and Thirteenth Street Heights.

Melrose-Mercy has a rich history, especially in the African-American community. It is home to the Melrose clubhouse, which served as a critical civic and recreation center for African-American citizens while St. Petersburg was under severe segregation. It was also home to the Melrose YMCA from 1945 to 1964. The clubhouse is maintained today as an historical landmark in the area.

Even though it is technically not within the boundaries of the Melrose-Mercy neighborhood, the Mercy Hospital is located just adjacent. This historical hospital is no longer in operation but served as the only primary care facility for African Americans in St. Petersburg from 1923 to 1966. The hospital also served as a site for protesting against the segregation of hospitals throughout the city.

Today, Melrose-Mercy is a vibrant neighborhood with a favorable location. It is home to many local community churches and is a great place to live in or visit alike.

What Does It Cost To Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Pinellas County?

It doesn’t cost you anything upfront to hire Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes Personal Injury Lawyers; we work on a contingency fee basis.

A contingency fee basis means we only receive attorneys’ fees if we obtain compensation for you. We’ll receive our fees as a percentage of that monetary award. The percentage varies depending on the case, but we’ll discuss it with you before we get started – it will usually be around 33%.

This payment system allows you to hire an attorney when you otherwise couldn’t afford to. It also incentives us to collect as much compensation for you as we can. The more money you receive, the more money we receive too.

Feel free to get in touch with our legal team if you have any questions about the contingency fee system; we’re here to assist as best we can.

Statute of Limitations in Florida Personal Injury Cases

Florida’s statute of limitations is a law that sets deadlines for when lawsuits must be filed in its courts. If you file your lawsuit too late, a court won’t hear your case. You’ll also likely lose your ability to pursue compensation for your injuries.

The state recently changed its statute of limitations for most types of personal injury claims. There is a two-year time limit for accidents. However, there are exceptions to these deadlines in many cases.

We advise contacting our law office if you aren’t sure how this law applies to your case; we can help you determine whether you still have time to file your lawsuit during your free consultation.
