The History of the Historic Uptown in St. Petersburg, FL
The area that is now St. Petersburg, known fondly to its residents as St. Pete, was originally the home of the Tocobaga tribe. White settlers began setting up homesteads in the area in the 1830s and 1840s, and in 1875, John Constantine Williams bought a 2,500-acre tract of land that would eventually become St. Pete. In 1888, he transferred part of that land to an exiled Russian noble named Peter Demens, who named the city after St. Petersburg, Russia.
Historic Uptown really began to come into its own in the early 20th century during the post-WWI housing boom. St. Pete citizens started building Tudor, Mediterranean Revival, and even Art Moderne-style homes in the area. As St. Pete continued to expand, Historic Uptown settled into the heart of the growing city.
Today, Historic Uptown is an up-and-coming neighborhood in St. Pete located just north of downtown. Parts of downtown are just a five-minute walk from the neighborhood. Historic Uptown is a haven of young professionals, artists, and beautiful homes that transport you back to the nostalgic beginnings of St. Pete.
You’ll find St. Anthony’s Hospital and beautiful Historic Round Lake Park within the borders of Historic Uptown. Crescent Lake Park and Woodlawn Park are both just north of the neighborhood, and Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays play, is a little to the south. Take the family up to Great Explorations Children’s Museum to the northeast of Historic Uptown, or visit the Imagine Museum to the southwest to take in some fine art.

At Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes Personal Injury Lawyers, we’ll help you get the money you deserve and prove that your suffering is the result of negligence.
Truck Accidents
Truck accidents can be especially devastating due to the larger size and weight of the vehicles involved. And getting a fair settlement in your case can mean taking on both an insurance company and the trucking company. Our truck accident lawyers at Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes Personal Injury Lawyers will fight to get you a fair settlement, even if it means taking the case to court.
Wrongful Death
Losing a loved one is always tragic, but it can be even more painful to know that they didn’t have to die. Wrongful death cases seek to hold the person who caused your loss responsible. Our lawyers will help you get justice for your loved one and will fight for a settlement that helps to ease some of the pain and expense of your loss.
Statute of Limitations in Florida Personal Injury Cases
Most states put limits on how long you have to file a lawsuit. This is called the statute of limitations, and it varies from state to state and depending on the type of suit you’re filing. This means you can’t decide decades after an injury to sue the person who caused it.
In Florida, the statute of limitations for most personal injury cases was recently changed. You’ll have a two-year deadline if your accident happened on or after 3/24/2023, and a four-year deadline if it took place prior to that date.
As a rule of thumb, it’s best to talk to a Historic Uptown personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after your accident. The sooner you start work on your case, the easier it will be to gather evidence and ensure you get your claim filed well before the statute of limitations runs out.
Damages Available in Historic Uptown Personal Injury Cases
In general, there are three types of damages you may be awarded in a personal injury case in Historic Uptown: economic, non-economic, and punitive.
Economic damages cover expenses that you can put a definite price on, such as
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Property damage
- Diminished earning capacity
Non-economic damages cover suffering and loss that don’t come with an inherent dollar value. Just because you can’t put a specific price on suffering doesn’t mean it’s any less valid or that you shouldn’t get compensation for it.
Non-economic damages can cover
- Emotional distress
- Pain and suffering
- Scarring and disfigurement
- Reduced quality of life
- Loss of companionship
In rare cases, you might be awarded punitive damages in your personal injury case. These only apply when the defendant acted maliciously or especially egregiously. Punitive damages serve to punish them for their actions, but they have a very high evidence requirement and won’t apply in most cases.
