Young driver creates havoc
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a number of car accidents that closed the east side of Pine Ridge Road for two hours hurt seven people. Authorities suggest that an 18-year-old driver in a Ford pickup truck was headed eastbound on Pine Ridge Road when he drove through the intersection and smashed into a Camry that was waiting for the red light to change.
The pickup truck was moving so fast that the driver slammed into the windshield upon impact, causing him to press down on the gas pedal and drive the truck into two more cars. Before colliding with the Chrysler minivan and Toyota pickup truck, the 18-year-old also drove into traffic control box and a one way sign. Six of the people injured suffered from minor injuries. However, the 62-year-old male driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries in the accident. Police charged the 18-year-old driver with resisting arrest without violence, violating probation, careless driving and several charges for DUI causing injury. After an accident occurs, many victims are faced with extensive repair bills, overwhelming medical expenses and lost wages. In some cases, those victims seek legal counsel. A personal injury lawyer may be able help victims review police investigations of an accident, negotiate with insurers and file claims against the individuals who are liable for damages cause by an accident. In this case, all the individuals who suffered injury as a result of the young driver may be able to claim compensation through civil actions. A lawyer who is working with one of the victims may be able to help show the man’s negligence by citing the criminal charges levied against him by authorities.
