Pinellas DUI “Wolf Pack” on the Move: The Results are in!

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new task force designed to crack down on DUI related car accidents and injuries. On April 19, 2012, Sheriff Bob Gaultieri announced that deputies were going to conduct DUI “Wolf Pack” operations in Pinellas County set for this past Friday, April 20th.

So what is the “Wolf Pack”? It is a DUI task force that consists of: Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office,
Patrol Operations Bureau, Strategic Enforcement Section, and the K-9 unit. According to the Tampa Bay Times, and the Sheriff’s press release, this roving countywide effort was initiated Friday to reduce injuries related to driving under the influence and to educate drivers. The Sheriff announced that the Wolf Pack patrols will become a monthly occurrence, but not on the same nights as the DUI Checkpoints.

The slated goal of the Wolf Pack is to target drivers under the influence of alcohol, aggressive driving and other traffic related violations; and since Friday’s patrol, the results are in:

  • Seven DUI citations,
  • One charge of failing to submit to a breath, blood or urine test,
  • Three charges of driving with a suspended or revoked license,
  • One charge of driving without a valid license,
  • One charge of marijuana possession; and
  • One warrant arrest.

The “Wolf Pack” issued 19 citations in all according to the Tampa Bay Times review of the Sheriff’s Office Reports. Seven DUI citations could arguably equate to seven less DUI-related accidents on our Pinellas County roadways.
