SUV Driver Killed in Crash with School Bus, 18 Others Injured

There was another auto accident involving a school bus on Sweetbriar Drive and Anclote Boulevard in Holiday about 8:34am this morning.  The Florida Highway patrol indicated that an Isuzu Trooper was heading west on Sweetbriar Drive when it crossed the center line hitting the bus head-on. The driver of the Isuzu Tropper died from her injuries.

The school bus was carrying 38 students from Paul R. Smith Middle School in Holiday. Deputies said 17 students were taken to local hospitals. Most of them suffered minor scrapes, bruises and neck pain.

The school bus driver was injured since the impact of the crash was near the driver’s seat.  The other students that were not injured were taken by another bus or picked up by their parents. School officials will have crisis counselors on hand for the students today.

This particular school bus was equipped with safety belts and surveillance cameras but the cameras were not operating at the time of the auto accident.  No confirmation on the number of students that were not wearing their safety belts at the time of the accident.
